CROSSFIT?…What is that?…The question I found myself asking 4 years ago. Now, okay you can Google it and you’ll find the basic definition of the word but let me tell you a little bit about what it’s meant for me…
After a quick search online I discovered that UNIT 22 was the name of my local “box” (the first of many new words to learn) and I signed myself and a friend up for a taster session to help answer this question. Guess what? At the last minute my friend cancelled on me…at first I thought “no way, I’m not going into the unknown alone!“ But I really wanted to try this new fitness craze out so I thought ”what the hell…just go Sadaf!” and it was one of the best decisions I ever made!
Being a member of UNIT 22 has allowed me to achieve things I never thought possible. I remember walking in and seeing one of the girls doing kipping pull ups on the bar and asking her how long it took for her to be able to do that, thinking I’ll never be able to do that! But it all came – with time and excellent coaching and programming, my strength and fitness made leaps no other training had been able to achieve before. I’ve gained new skills I’d never even seen being performed in any other gym.
It’s more than just about fitness or an exercise class…it’s about belonging to an amazing community and working to achieve a shared goal of being the best version of yourself that you can be. And that’s what I’d say to anyone who asks me about CrossFit – it will make you fitter and both physically and mentally stronger than you ever imagined. CrossFit will push you to achieve your goals and allow you to put your fitness to the test everyday!
There’s just something therapeutic about picking up that heavy bar and feeling your heart pounding out of your chest as you run in the rain carrying a 15kg slamball – don’t ask me why! Amazing things happen when you step outside of your comfort zone and the results will speak for themselves!
Give it a go…it might surprise you to learn just what your body is capable of!
