GREG

PROFILE:

Greg graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2007 with a BSc in Sport & Exercise Sciences which began his career in the sport and fitness industry. He began coaching rugby at Northampton Saints RFC in the Community Team before going on to achieve his Level 3 Personal Trainer and making the transition into the fitness industry.

Greg joined CrossFit Northampton back in 2012 and then founded UNIT 22 in the same year, as the business diversified to offer more to the members such as Weightlifting, RAW Conditioning and Powerlifting and continue to grow the gym with his business partner, Bonney. He has gained valuable experience over his time in the industry working with groups/ classes, but also on a one to one basis with personal training and continues to develop his knowledge to do so.

Greg completed his Level 4 Remedial Sports Massage in 2015 to offer another string to the UNIT 22 bow in the form of Biomechanics Assessments & Sports Massage. This has allowed him to integrate injury rehabilitation and corrective exercise into the members training on a personal level as well as in group classes.

He is currently studying for a Masters degree is Osteopathy (M.Ost.) to extend his knowledge and the services that UNIT 22 has to offer.

BONNEY

PROFILE:

Starting her fitness career as an Aerobics teacher (back in time when leg warmers and leotards were fashionable!) and gym instructor, Bonney brings over 20 years of experience to her coaching. Working in a variety of roles, from General Manager at a chain of ladies only gyms back in 1998, where her interest in pre and post-natal fitness was first ignited, to spending time working on cruise ships as a PT and then establishing her own PT business in the UK and then in Ireland.

Returning from Ireland in 2006, Bonney took up a position with UK Birth Centres heading up their Pre/post-natal fitness programme. During all this time she has developed her understanding of the Pilates method, something that she feels benefits everyone from elite athletes to young children.

Being introduced to Crossfit in 2012, it was the combination of the many challenging elements and the fantastic community that got her hooked and from there is was an easy choice to do her Level 1, followed quickly by a CrossFit kids qualification. As the mum of four boys, she has seen first hand the importance of getting kids active and has been coaching kids fitness for 10 years.

Seeing kids inspired to get up and get moving is one of the things that she loves most about her job. Currently studying for a Level 4 qualification in Rehabilitation and corrective Pilates and soon to complete her Level 2 CrossFit course. Bonney is committed to continuing her education to help people achieve the best they can from their time at UNIT 22.

JAMIE

PROFILE:

Jamie has been working in fitness for over 7 years, starting off by building a successful bootcamp business across Northamptonshire, before moving to London to work at the exclusive 1-1 personal training studio, Matt Roberts in Mayfair. Since returning to Northamptonshire in 2015 he has further developed his knowledge in exercise referral and pre and postnatal exercise, so that he could ensure that people of all ages were provided with the support to exercise safely and effectively. Jamie firmly believes that movement is medicine and should be enjoyed by everyone.

Fitness has been a true passion throughout Jamie’s life. This started with rugby at age 5, to competing at national championships in swimming and basketball as a teenager and ultimately playing professional rugby at Northampton Saints RFC. Injury sadly cut Jamie’s professional rugby career short and he turned his hand to a variety of other sports including Kettlebell Sport and indoor rowing. However, Jamie still works closely with Buckingham Swans RFC as a coach and sports massage therapist, working alongside the coaching staff to help maintain player’s health and manage injury.

In 2017 Jamie found CrossFit and instantly took to it, the community that surrounds CrossFit and UNIT 22 itself is so welcoming and fantastic to be a part of. The accountability that the classes provide means there is nowhere to hide and you can very often find Jamie outside looking a bit pale post WoD! The next step for Jamie is to try to qualify and compete at an individual competition.

CONNIE

PROFILE:

Connie started performing arts at a young age eventually going onto to college and gaining her dance teaching qualifications. After she finished her training in professional dance she began teaching. She then went on to performing at prestige events such as the X factor before transitioning over to the fitness industry gaining her Level 3 in personal training. 
Having recently moved to Northampton from Liverpool, Connie is continuing working as a Personal Trainer and Coach whilst studying for her British weightlifting coaching certificates. 
 
Her new passion is olympic weightlifting and she has recently gained the title of Northern champion!

MANDY

PROFILE: 

Mandy was an inaugural member of UNIT 22, from its first days in September 2011. Finding CrossFit after a lifetime of training couldn’t have happened at a better time. Working as a teacher since the 1980s and bringing up a family of rugby players meant that her own training sometimes had to take a back seat, but by 2011, with the kids off the payroll CrossFit became a priority. Mandy became somewhat addicted, and began competing, and to her surprise began actually enjoying some success. Winning her category in Raising the Bar in 2016 was a memorable day, and reaching the Masters Qualifiers in the Open seasons 2014-2016 was awesome, but provoked a growing realisation that she didn’t have the time to develop further as an athlete with a full time teaching career.

Mandy decided she wanted to make CrossFit a bigger part of her life, and wanted to encourage others to participate too. Taking her Level 1 in 2015 confirmed this, and her passion for the sport continued to grow. She made the decision to give up teaching in 2017 and to concentrate on CrossFit more seriously and has shown great results already.

ADAM

PROFILE: 

 

Adam joined UNIT 22 in 2012 and instantly loved the satisfaction he got from challenging himself, setting goals and accomplishing them. Along with enjoying the friendly atmosphere and social aspect of group classes, he found himself wanting to get more involved and began his journey as a coach early in 2013 and has been building on his knowledge and qualifications ever since.

He not only coaches CrossFit, but was an integral in setting up and the continuing development of the RAW Conditioning side of UNIT 22. You’ll find him coaching these sessions with the same passion as he has for CrossFit.

He loves to see others achieve their goals, especially those starting their fitness journey and his breadth of knowledge means he is able to work with newbies, those recovering from injury of returning and the more elite athletes alike.

He prides himself on being very approachable, always happy to chat and assist in any areas that may be needed.

HAYLEY

PROFILE: 

Hayley has been doing CrossFit since the beginning of 2012. Since the age of 12, her sport was purely athletics, where she represented England in the 800m and cross country in most age groups and loved it (maybe not the cross country so much!). Runners are notoriously weak at strength and conditioning as it’s just not a focus in the training, so CrossFit was really tough for me to start with. However, before long she was hooked. CrossFit highlighted all her weaknesses and strengths, which motivated her to become a better athlete. There’s always new skills to learn. CrossFit can make you a stronger athlete, whatever your sport.

Hayley offers 1-1 sessions on CrossFit gymnastics skills and with her background and experience in the field, anything running relatedand she’s always happy to answer any questions you might have on other areas of your training.
